Healthy Start To College
Posted on August 24, 2010 · Leave a CommentHey college freshmen! Are you excited about starting your new life away from home? I hope you’re ready for studying, long classes, professors, parties and of course that infamous freshmen 15! I’m sure you have heard all the horror stories before. Of college students going away to school and coming back home 15 to 20 pounds heavier. Going away to college can be really dangerous on your waistline and weight. Your college dinning hall is probably set up like an all-you-can-eat buffet. On top of that many freshmen don’t have excess to any real cooking and kitchen supplies – or don’t want to cook at all. This means less cooking and more fast food.
Don’t become a victim! Here are 5 tips that you need to know.
*A Healthy Start - Breakfast is a most! Try your hardest not to skip breakfast. Staring your day with a filling meal helps steady your metabolism throughout the day.
*Hydration Is Key – Drink lots of water college students! Ditch the soda, juice and energy drinks. Drinking lots of water can prevent bloating and constipation. On top of that water isn’t full of fatty calories like other artificial drinks.
*Control Your Portions – Avoid filling up your plate. Just because your plate is big enough for a lot of food, doesn’t mean you have to fill it up with a lot of food. Learn what proper portions look like and follow them.
*Shop Smart – I know that shopping healthy isn’t always cheap, but now that you are living in our own apartment you have to make the right choices. Choose healthy foods when grocery shopping. Instead of shopping at a chain grocery store try your local Framer’s Market. If you aren’t the cooking type or you are worried about food going bad stock up on these foods – buy items like frozen vegetables and fruit, yogurt, low-fat string cheese, and healthy frozen meals.
*Healthy Snacks – Think twice about picking up a bag of chips during your late night study session. Instead stock your apartment up with healthy snacks you can munch on like – nuts, pretzels, fruit, popcorn, and nutrition bars.

3 Reasons You Should Own A Dog
Posted on August 21, 2010 · Leave a CommentDid you know that The Berkeley Apartments is pet-friendly? Add a new addition to your apartment today – adopt a dog! If you are a pet owner or animal lover, you know how it feels to have a four-legged best friend. Your pet is more like your baby or your buddy, not just an animal.
According to several studies, people who own pets live longer, healthier and happier lives. Researchers believe that owning a pet can help keep down stress levels and help prevent heart disease and depression.
Why you should own a dog?
Reason 1 - They are always glad to see you. Dogs are naturally excited when their owners return home. It doesn’t matter if you left hours ago or five minutes ago, a dog’s reaction is always the same.
Reason 2 – Dogs make us feel safe. Dogs hear, see and sense things way before humans do. When someone strange knocks on your door, what will be the first thing at the door sniffing and barking – your dog of course. You’d like to think they would protect you if they had to or at least make a person think twice about coming in.
Reason 3 – Dogs are always up for a bit of exercise. This reason alone should be a good motivator for getting a dog. It doesn’t matter what kind of dog you have. Big, small or tiny, your dog is going to have to be walked. It’s not like you can just open the door and let them out. This helps you to get in a couple of walks during your day.

Off The Leash Fun In Fort Worth
Posted on August 13, 2010 · Leave a CommentWalking with your dog is not only fun, it’s a form of exercise. How often do you get out for a walk with your dog?
I love going for walks with my pup. Snow, my 8 month old Pug, hates being locked inside all day. She gets so excited when I get home and I can finally take her for a walk all around Forth Worth. I think it might be time to actually get her socialized with other dogs though. The best place to do that is at Fort Woof Park!
Have you been looking for a park to take your dog to? You should definitely try going to Fort Woof. Fort Woof is Fort Worth’s first fenced off-leash dog park.
Where is Fort Woof ? The park is located at Gateway Park, north of Interstate 30 between Beach Street and Oakland Boulevard, east of downtown. It’s open from 5:00 am to 11:30 pm daily. The park provides an ideal place for dogs and their owners to have fun, within the limits defined in the park rules.
Benefits of going to the Dog Park –
- Your dog can run free!
- Your dog can learn how to interact with other dogs.
- You and your dog can mingle with other dog enthusiasts.
- You get to meet lots of new dogs!
More About Fort Woof Park.
Check out what Yelp.com reviews say about this dog park. Majority of the reviews gave this dog park five stars!
“This dog park is amazing and it has gotten even better since the last time I visited!”
“Both sides now have agility equipment- nice agility equipment- as well.”
“I give Fort Woof five paws up. My two dogs love it so much; they’ve even tried to jump out of the car when pulling in. Now its window’s up!”

How To Live A Simple Life
Posted on August 10, 2010 · Leave a Comment“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak” – Hans Hofmann
Simplify your life. What does that even mean? I feel like our society has created us to always be busy. Everyone is always on the go. It doesn’t matter where or who you are. People are always on their phones, their computers or rushing to get somewhere. Who really ever has a chance to just be simple? Ever get the feeling that if you are not busy or stressed about something you are not important? Especially at work, I don’t even believe simplicity exist in the work place. Just the other day I was in a meeting and every manager was on their Blackberry, iPhone or iPad.
Last week I took the intuitive to make small changes in my day, focusing especially on my work day. I promised myself that I wasn’t going to let my day get too crazy, stressed or disorganized. I’ve eliminated most of the routine, boring, administrative tasks with a few simple principles. These days I have eliminated the non-essentials and focus on what I truly love.
I will admit this process can be difficult. Not everyone can make such drastic steps toward simplicity, but if you have some control over your workday you can do a few small things that will simplify things greatly.
It’s time to start enjoying your simple day!
Start Early – This is the perfect trick to a simpler workday. Get to work before everyone else. Before all the meetings, chatter and telephone calls. You will be able to work in peace and quiet. Just imagine getting big task done before all the distractions walk into the office.
Make A Short List – Make a long list of everything that needs to get done that day. Then make a list of 1 to 4 things you really want to get done. Choose so that if you got only these tasks done, you’d be proud of what you did that day. Start with the most important task before checking email.
Reduce Your Hours – This tip might sound strange. You probably believe that more hours equal more work. Set a limit — say 6 or 7 hours a day — and get your most essential work done within that limit. This way you will be sure to get the important stuff done.
Beat Distractions – What are your top distractions at work? Is it always checking your email, reading gossip websites or maybe social media? Try to set a time limit for all that stuff. Preferably later in the day, like 3pm to 4pm. Until 3 pm, you shouldn’t be allowing yourself to get distracted by these things. By grouping them all into one time period, you allow yourself to do other work first and on time. Another approach might be to do them for 10 minutes at the end of each hour

Ali Chooses…
Posted on August 2, 2010 · Leave a CommentOkay Berkeley Bachelorette fans, I know you tuned in tonight… What were your thoughts?
The spoilers were wrong. All season people were saying Ali goes home with no one. Well tonight, millions watched her fall in love with Roberto. She was left in Bora Bora with Chris and and Roberto. Ali’s family got to meet the guys and really loved Roberto the most. On the last date with Roberto, it was pretty obvious her feelings were apparent for Roberto. He professed his love for Ali, and she kept saying her heart wanted to explode. She came over for her last date with Chris, and you could tell something was not right. Ali closed the chapter with Chris and told him she was in love with someone else the day before the final rose ceremony. The rest is history, Ali and Roberto are starting their live as a couple together in San Diego.
Were you surprised that Roberto was the final guy? Are you tuning into for Bachelor Pad? I think my Monday nights are finally free…
